IPSec VPN Client for Windows7 (x64)

So…… Cisco decided to not offer the “Cisco VPN Client” for x64 Systems - and not at all for Windows7. In my case, I’m running Windows7 x64…. Instead, they’re promoting the Cisco Anyconnect Client, which unfortunately only works with the newest Cisco server infrastructure which we don’t have installed yet.

Now… what can we do? Leave Windows7, going back to good ol’ Windows XP?

No, because there’s another option: Moving to alternate client software. There’s the NCP client for Windows7 including x64 version, which is >100€ currently per license, but is reported to work with a Cisco IPSec infrastructure. The .pcf config files can be imported as well.
Even better, there’s the Shrew Soft Inc. VPNClient for all Windowsclient operating systems  from Win2k to Win7, including x64 versions. Since August 2009, it’s also capable of importing  .pcf files, and the best thing is: it’s free!

Just downloaded the <3MB file, installed, imported the pcf file, double-clicked the connection entry and was connected right after entering my user credentials.

This is awesome!

I’m going to donate some dollars to them, as they saved me from moving back to
